Cunningham named NSIC Baseball Player of the Week

            Wayne State College senior shortstop Nate Cunningham was announced late Monday morning as the Northern Sun Conference Baseball Player of the Week following his performance in the Wildcats' three-game home sweep over Minnesota Crookston over the weekend.
            A 6-2, 210-pounder from Elkhorn (Elkhorn North HS), hit .600 at the plate going 9 for 15, recording three hits in all three contests.  He had two home runs, a triple and 11 RBI with four runs scored and a 1.133 slugging percentage in the series.  Cunningham had two homers (both in the same inning), going 3 for 5 with seven RBI in the series opening 15-3 win on Friday.  He was 3 for 5 with three RBI in a 10-7 win Saturday and ended the weekend going 3 for 5 with an RBI in an 11-9, 10-inning win to close the series.
            For the season, Cunningham leads Wayne State with a .393 batting average with five homers and 24 RBI.  He leads the NSIC with four triples and at bats (89), ranks second in the league in RBI (24), seventh in slugging percentage (.697) and tied for seventh in home runs and 10th in OPS (on-base + slugging percentage) at 1.147.
            Wayne State is 13-9 overall and tied for fifth in the NSIC with a 5-4 league mark.  The 'Cats will be at home again this weekend hosting Concordia-St. Paul (10-11, 5-4 NSIC) in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday with a doubleheader slated for Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne.
