3/20/2026 6:45:00 PM

Box Score             In a game that featured nine runs in the ninth inning, Wayne State scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth using a walk-off two-run single by freshman first baseman Joe Dougherty giving the Wildcats a wild 13-12 win over Concordia-St. Paul to open a three-game NSIC baseball series Friday afternoon at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne.  WSC has now won six straight games, moving to 14-9 overall and 6-4 in the NSIC while CSP drops to 10-12 on the season and 5-5 in league play.
WSC opened the scoring with two runs in the second to take the early lead as Casey Prychak singled and scored on a Cam Madsen sacrifice fly for the first run with Easton Mains later getting a single and scoring on a Max Heard single for the second run.
The Golden Bears scored their first run of the game in the third to cut the deficit to 2-1, but WSC answered with two more runs in the fourth to grab a 4-1 advantage on just one hit, a solo homer by Prychak to lead off the inning.
Concordia-St. Paul tied the score in the top of the fifth with three runs to make the score 4-4, but WSC appeared to have gained momentum back in the bottom of the frame thanks to a grand slam to left field by Mains for an 8-4 Wildcat lead.  It was the lone hit of the inning for WSC as the bases were loaded thanks to a pair of walks and a hit batter.
CSP scored two runs in the top of the seventh, cutting the Wildcat lead to 8-6.
The Wildcats produced single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to grab a 10-6 edge.  In the seventh, Prychak walked and pinch-runner Tyler Lofdahl later scored following a stolen base, CSP throwing error and wild pitch.  In the eighth Gabe Monosmith opened the inning with a single with pinch-runner Nolan Clark crossing home plate on a Paul Schuyler sacrifice fly giving the 'Cats a four-run lead.
The top of the ninth inning saw Concordia-St. Paul score six runs on seven hits and two costly Wayne State errors off Wildcat senior closer Braden Cannon to turn a 10-6 deficit into a 12-10 advantage.
Wayne State then came back with the rally in the bottom of ninth thanks to three runs on three hits and a pair of walks to cap an amazing final inning and walk-off 13-12 win.
Korey Cozad doubled to left center field to start inning.  Brayden Chaney then followed with an RBI triple down the right field line to score the first run cutting the Golden Bear lead to 12-11.  Chaney was then thrown out at home on a fielder's choice for the first out of the inning.
Mains stole second and third base with Madsen drawing a walk to put runners on the corners with one out.  Madsen then stole second and pinch-hitter Easton Leahy walked to load the bases.
On the first pitch, Dougherty then delivered a single to right-center field bringing home Mains and Madsen with the game-winning runs and the celebration began as the Wildcats capped an amazing 13-12 win in walk-off fashion.
CSP held a 19-14 advantage in hits over the Wildcats.  Mains was 2 for 5 with a grand slam, three stolen bases and four RBI to lead the Wildcats at the plate.  Prychak was 2 for 2 with a homer and two runs scored.  Chaney tripled and scored twice while Leahy had a double for the other WSC extra base hit.
Madsen, Heard and Monosmith each singled twice.
Wayne State used five pitchers in the game.  Freshman starter Tyler Albert worked the first four innings and allowed eight hits and four runs with six strikeouts.  Lefthander Conlin Grady worked two innings of scoreless relief.  Brooks Kneifl pitched 2/3 of an inning with Jace Coleman coming in for 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief with three strikeouts.  Cannon collected the win, now 3-1, despite allowing six runs in the top of the ninth with only two runs earned.
The Wildcats and Golden Bears conclude their NSIC series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
