The Wayne State softball team picked up a pair of shutout wins over Bemidji State in Northern Sun Conference play on a very hot Saturday afternoon at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex by scores of 10-0 in five innings and 9-0. The "Cats move to 23-5 and 3-1 in the league following the wins while BSU drops to 6-21 and 0-4 in the NSIC.
WSC scored at least one run in every inning to control the opener 10-0 in five innings. Madie Scobee opened the scoring in the first frame with an RBI double scoring
Emilee Marth, who doubled, for a 1-0 lead.

Wayne State erupted for five runs in the third, fueled by a two-run double from Marth and a two-run single by
Jordyn Klein.
Jordyn Rochholz also had an RBI single in the big inning.
WSC took a 9-0 lead with two runs in the fourth thanks to Coleman's two-run homer. The 'Cats closed the scoring in the fifth with their final run as
Taylor Fritz had an RBI single.
Wayne State held a 12-3 edge in hits over Bemidji State. Coleman was 2 for 3 with a two-run homer and two RBI. Marth finished for 3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI while Klein went 2 for 4 with two walks.
Coleman was also the winning pitcher for the 'Cats, now 6-1 on the year. She fired a three-hit shutout and had eight strikeouts with just one walk.
The second game saw WSC score five runs in the second inning while
Kennadi Borngrebe and
Jadeyn Stahr combined on a shutout giving the Wildcats the sweep with a 9-0 win.
Sophomore first baseman
Reagan Dreibelbis opened the second inning with her ninth homer of the season.
Leah Chance later added a grand slam putting the 'Cats ahead 5-0.
The score stayed 5-0 until the fifth when WSC scored one run as Chance walked and scored on Borngrebe's sacrifice fly to center field.
Wayne State added three insurance runs in the seventh to cap the scoring and finish with a 9-0 victory.
WSC held a 9-7 edge in hits on the Beavers. Chance was 2 for 4 with a grand slam, four RBI and three runs scored. Klein had a double, going 2 for 4 with a run scored while Scobee finished 2 for 4 with a run scored. Dreibelbis homered and had two RBI.
Bonrgrebe worked the first five innings in the circle improving to 8-3 on the year with the win. She gave up five hits while recording seven strikeouts. Stahr pitched the final two innings and yielded two hits while strikeout out two.
The 'Cats are home next weekend hosting Minnesota Crookston Saturday at 12 p.m. and MSU Moorhead Sunday in a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
