Wayne State softball notched a pair of wins on a windy Saturday afternoon over the Golden Eagles of University of Minnesota Crookston, 11-1 and 6-1. Wayne State improves to 25-5 on the year and 5-1 in the league while the Golden Eagles move 8-23 and 2-4 in the NSIC.
WSC scored eight runs on the second inning off several hits.
Taylor Coleman earned the first two RBIs with a double to right center, scoring both Jordyn Rocholz and
Lillie Timm.
WSC kept adding runs to the board as the wind played a factor in this afternoon's fielding efforts for both teams. Rocholz would earn the last RBI after being hit by a pitch with bases loaded for the 8
th run in the inning.
The 'Cats would score in the third and fourth innings to build an 11-0 lead through four before Crookston got on the board in the top of the fifth inning.
Four Wildcats recorded two hits in game one with Coleman leading the way with four RBIs on 2-3 hitting and two runs scored. In the circle Coleman earned the win, giving up one run on two hits with seven strikeouts.
Game two the 'Cats were slow to start with on two runs scored through the first three innings.
Reagan Dreibelbis doubled down the right field line that scored
Kennadi Borngrebe in the second inning. Dreibelbis came around to score later after a
Jordyn Klein sacrifice fly.
Leah Chance earned an RBI in the fourth with a sacrifice fly that scored Timm for the 'Cats third run. Dreibelbis recorded another RBI double out to right center in the fifth inning to put up the fourth run for WSC.
Chance added two insurance runs on the board with a two RBI double that scored Klein and Rocholz, giving WSC a 6-0 lead. UMC scored their lone run late in the final inning before
Jadeyn Stahr closed out the contest, giving WSC the 6-1 win.
Dreibelbis was the only Wildcat to record two hits in the game and added two RBIs and Chance had three RBIs to lead the team. Borngrebe started in the circle for the 'Cats and recorded 12 strikeouts in six innings pitched and Stahr recorded two strikeouts.
The Wildcats will be at home again Sunday afternoon hosting MSU Moorhead in an NSIC doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
