Academic All District honors given to four Wildcat women's basketball players

            The Wayne State College women's basketball team placed four players on the 2025-26 Academic All-District Women;s Basketball team released Tuesday morning by College Sports Communicators. The group includes seniors Rachel Dahlen, Lily Fitzgerald, Meg Rietz and Kylah vanDonkersgoed.  The award is selected by College Sports Communicators and recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the court and in the classroom.
            Dahlen, a 6'2 senior forward from Devils Lake, North Dakota (Devils Lake HS), maintained a grade point average of 3.8 majoring in political science. On the court this season she started all 28 games at center and averaged 10.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game to rank second on the team in both categories. Dahlen had a team-high 18 games scoring double figures and ranked third in the NSIC in blocked shots per game at 1.5. She also received the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award this season.
            Fitzgerald, a 5' 11 senior guard/forward from Mandurah, Australia (Willetton HS), recorded a 3.6 grade point average in the classroom this season majoring in pre-physical therapy. She saw action in 27 of 28 games and averaged 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest, highlighted by a career-high 12 points in a 74-63 win at William Jewell on November 18th.
            Rietz, a 6' 0 senior guard from Huxley, Iowa (Ballard HS), posted a 3.8 grade point average majoring in computer science. On the court she started 26 games and accounted for 5.6 points and 4.0 rebounds a game with six games of 10 or more points and two games with 10 or more rebounds. Rietz scored a career-high 14 points at Southwest Minnesota State (12/6/25) and had a career-best 12 rebounds vs Concordia- St. Paul (12/18/25). She also earned the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award.
            vanDonkersgoed, a 6' 1 senior forward from Sioux Falls, South Dakota (Sioux Falls Christian HS), had a 3.8 grade point average majoring in criminal justice and psychology. She started all 28 games this season averaging 13.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game to earn All-NSIC Second Team honors. vanDonkersgoed had 17 games scoring in double figures with a career-high 33 points at MSU Moorhead (1/17/26) and 31 one week earlier (1/9/26) vs Northern State. She also received the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award.
            Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 16-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wildcats ended this season at 10-18 overall and 5-17 in Northern Sun Conference play.
