Wayne State's five-run second inning carried the Wildcats through the rest of the game as WSC completed a Northern Sun Conference baseball sweep Saturday afternoon with a 7-4 win over the Jimmies on Senior Day at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne. WSC ends the regular season on a six-game winning streak and is now 29-21 overall and 21-16 in the NSIC while the University of Jamestown ends the year at 13-36 and 8-28 in league play.
Jamestown got on the board first to open the contest, scoring twice in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead.
WSC responded with one run in the bottom of the first as leadoff batter
Easton Mains singled, then stole second and third base and scored on a groundout by
Cam Madsen making the score 2-1.
The 'Cats erupted for a five-run second inning on six hits to take control of the game. Designated hitter
Korey Cozad doubled to right center to start the inning and scored on a
Braden Cannon RBI single up the middle.
Noah Strizek later followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Cannon to put WSC ahead 3-2.
Casey Prychak singled and came home on a Madsen single for the next WSC run.
Gabe Monosmith then belted a triple to left center field driving in Madsen with
Nate Cunningham bringing in Monosmith on a single to second to close out the big Wildcat inning.
The Jimmies added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to cut the Wildcat lead to 6-4.
Wayne State closed out the scoring with an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh as Monosmith singled to open the inning. Pinch-runner
Brayden Chaney then moved to second on a hit batter, stole third and scored on a Jamestown throwing error for the final run of the game.
Three Wildcat relievers then shut down the Jimmies in the final two innings to clinch the 7-4 win.
Wayne State held an 11-7 edge in hits over Jamestown. Monosmith finished 3 for 4 with a triple, double, RBI and run scored. Cunningham went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles while Mains finished 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Clement Febus (2-2) earned the win with six strong innings, allowing three hits and three runs with one strikeout and two walks.
Kadyn Van Hill worked one inning of relief followed by 2/3 of an inning by senior lefthander
Adam Eggert.
Jace Coleman recorded one out in the eighth and senior closer
Braden Cannon pitched the final frame and allowed two hits with one strikeout to post his 10
th save of the season, marking the third time (2023 and 2025) in his career he has recorded 10 saves in a season.
Wayne State will enter next week's NSIC Baseball Tournament as the #5 seed and face #4 seed Sioux Falls Wednesday at 12 p.m. in the opening round at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls to open the double-elimination tournament.
