Chloe Hanel had a match-high 13 kills and season-high eight blocks to power #2 Wayne State in a Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep over the University of Sioux Falls Saturday afternoon at Rice Arena with scores of the match 25-13, 25-19, 25-17. WSC improves to 14-1 on the season and 6-0 in the NSIC while the visiting Cougars fall to 4-10 and 0-6 in conference play.
The Wildcats never trailed in the opening set, holding USF to a negative hitting percentage (-.032) forcing nine errors that included four blocks, as WSC cruised to a 25-13 set win.
Hanel got the 'Cats off to a strong start with six kills in the opening set to go with three blocks.
Sioux Falls battled the Wildcats in the second set, but WSC used 16 kills while forcing another six attack errors on the Cougars as Wayne State closed the set with a 25-19 victory.
Hanel accounted for seven kills on eight attacks in the second set while
Channatee Robles produced four kills.
WSC closed the match in the third set with another 16 kills and a .368 hitting percentage to go with four blocks and three service aces to complete the sweep with a 25-17 win.
Mia Berg had five kills on five attacks while
Delaney Miller produced five kills also. Hanel had four blocks while sophomore
Mattie Kamery had two of Wayne State's three ace serves.
Wayne State ended the match with a .296 hitting percentage while holding Sioux Falls to .078. WSC held a 44-28 advantage in kills and 10-9 in blocks. The 'Cats had a 48-46 edge in digs while WSC had five aces to three for USF.
Hanel led the Wildcats with a match-high 13 kills and eight blocks, a season-high. She hit .650 in the win with 13 kills and no errors on 20 attacks. Miller also hit double digits in kills with 10 and had three blocks.
