Matt is a hard working, strong catcher with a good arm and can swing it. . . expected to catch many innings for the 'Cats this spring.
2009: Played in 17 games with seven starts for the Wildcats...hit .176 with two RBI's and two stolen bases...had two multiple-hit games with two hits against Pittsburg State on 2-22-09 and Minnesota Duluth on 3-28-09.
2008: Became #1 catcher for Wayne State during freshman year, appearing in 38 games with 29 starts (26 at catcher, three at designated hitter)...hit .187 (17 for 91) with one homer and 13 RBI's...had three multiple-hit games, highlighted by 2 for 3 performance with two RBI's and two runs scored in 7-2 win over Bemidji State on 5-3-08...also had two hits vs. Nebraska-Kearney (2-23-08) and at Southwest Minnesota State (4-16-08)...ranked second on the team with 184 putouts.
2007: Sat out season as redshirt.
High School: Attended Dowling Catholic HS in West Des Moines, Iowa, where he lettered in baseball, football and track. . . earned All-Conference and All-District honors. . . helped his team appear in the state tournament with two semi-final apperances. . . helped his team win the conference championship his senior season. . . hit .406 as a senior with 14 doubles, four home runs and a .693 on base percentage. . . also a standout football player, helping his team to a 10-2 record and earning Second Team All-Conference honors as an outside linebacker.
