Biography
2008-09: Appeared in 17 games as a backup guard/three point specialist for the Wildcats, averaging 2.6 points and 0.7 rebounds per game while playing 5.4 minutes per game...scored career-high 12 points, making 4 of 6 three pointers, including the game-winning 30 footer as time expired in 88-87 overtime win at Bemidji State on 2-28-09...missed 10 games in the middle of the season due to foot infection...played season-high 17 minutes and scored eight points with career-high six rebounds vs. York College on 12-20-08...shot 33.3 percent (15-45) from the field, 31.7 percent (13-41) from the three point line and 50 percent (2-4) at the free throw stripe.
2007-08: Sat out season as a redshirt.
High School: Graduate of Winside High School...Messersmith averaged 29.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a senior to earn Class D-1 All-State First Team honors from Omaha World-Herald, Lincoln Journal Star and Huskerland Prep Report...averaged 25.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as a junior, shooting 91 percent from the free throw line...also named First Team All-State Huskerland Prep Report as a junior and sophomore and was a four-time All-Conference performer (three years Lewis and Clark Conference at Winside HS and one year Lou Platte All-Conference at Wood River HS)...scored 49 points in one game vs. Newcastle as a junior...finished high school basketball career with 1,705 points, shooting 56 percent from the field and 81.7 percent (308 of 377) from the free throw line...also excelled in track and field by qualifying for state track meet three seasons...as a senior, placed second in Class D in the triple jump (45' 1 1/4") and third in the long jump (20'8 1/2")...maintains a 3.8 grade point average to earn Academic All-State honors.
