Tyler Vaughn

            Tyler Vaughn is in his sixth year (2025-26) as pitching coach for the Wayne State baseball team.
            The 2025 Wildcat team registered a 30-win season for the first time since 2019 (32-18), going 30-22 overall and tied for third in the NSIC with a 25-15 league mark.  Wildcat junior closer Braden Cannon tied his own single season school record with an NSIC-leading 10 saves and as a team the WSC pitching staff had 12 saves, tied for fifth-most in a single season.  
            The Wildcat pitching staff lowered their earned run average from 7.09 to 5.61 under Vaughn in the 2024 season, ranking fifth in the NSIC.  WSC registered 371 strikeouts, the fifth-most in a single season, and saw an increase in wins for a fourth straight season under Vaughn with a 29-23 record (21-16 NSIC).
            Wayne State was 25-26 overall and 18-16 (eighth place) in the NSIC during the 2023 season.  Under Vaughn the Wildcat pitching staff recorded the fourth-most strikeouts (374) and the fourth-most saves (13) in a single season. 
            Vaughn is familiar with the NSIC, having played at Augustana and coached at Southwest Minnesota State prior to becoming the pitcher coach at Luther College in Iowa.
            A native of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Vaughn spent 1 1/2 years as pitching coach at Luther College before coming to Wayne State.  
            Prior to that, Vaughn served as a graduate assistant/pitching coach at Southwest Minnesota State for two years.  With Vaughn as pitching coach in 2018, SMSU recorded 293 strikeouts in just 40 games, the second highest single season total in school history.  While in Marshall, he also worked as an assistant coach for the Marshall American Legion and Junior Legion baseball teams for two years.
            Vaughn had a four-year playing career as a pitcher spending two years at Iowa Central Community College before transferring to Augustana.  At Augustana as a senior in 2017, Vaughn had a 6-1 record with a 2.31 ERA fanning 49 batters in 46 2/3 innings work.
            Vaughn earned a business degree from Augustana in 2017 and obtained his master's degree from Southwest Minnesota State.  He resides in Wayne with his wife Ashten and  daughter Blake.
