Bruce Fischbach

            With over 40 years of athletic training experience, Bruce Fischbach returns to Wayne State for his second year (2025-26). 
            Fischbach served as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at the University of South Dakota from 1987 until he became Director Emeritus in 2021 when he retired.  As head athletic trainer for the USD men's basketball team he led a staff of nine certified trainers.
            Inducted into the South Dakota Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame in June of 2014, Fischbach has worked a variety of athletic events during his career including serving as a special-events athletic trainer at the College World Series, Division II Indoor National Track and Field Championships, NCAA Division II Elite Eight, the Orange Bowl and South Dakota High School Football Championships.  He has served as president, vice-president and secretary/treasurer for the South Dakota Athletic Trainers Association and has been on the Mid American Athletic Trainers' Association's Board of Directors.
            Fischbach has also served as head athletic trainer for the Sioux City Explorers minor league baseball team for the last seven seasons.
            Fischbach received his bachelor of arts degree from Nebraska in 1984 and obtained a master of sport science degree from the United States Sports Academy in 1991.
            He and his wife Kelly have a family that includes four children - Elise, Ryun, Kylie and Dylan - and four grandchildren.
