Mike Grosz

Mike Grosz is in his 22nd year (2025-26) as the Wayne State College Director - Sports Information. At Wayne State, Grosz is in charge of publicity for the 15 varsity sports by issuing press releases to the media along with putting together media guides, schedule posters and cards and taking statistics for all home sporting events. Other duties include updating and maintaining the WSC athletic department website on the internet. He also serves as secretary for the Wayne State Athletic Hall of Fame.

Grosz is also a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). As a member of CoSIDA, he served on the Daktronics All-American Volleyball Committee, working as the Central Region Coordinator for four years and the National Coordinator another nine years. Grosz also serves as a voting member in the Central Region for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and is on the Northern Sun Conference Hall of Fame Committee.  

While at Wayne State, Grosz has helped host numerous conference and regional championships with the most recent being the 2022 NCAA Division II Central Region Volleyball Championships in Rice Auditorium.  Other NCAA regional events hosted at WSC under Grosz include the 2012 Women's Basketball Central Regional, the 2010 Softball Central Regional along with four NCAA Region Cross Country Championships (2006, 2009, 2010, 2014). 

Grosz was awarded the Golden Buddha during the 2022-23 school year as the NSIC SID of the Year and served as chair of the NSIC College Sports Communicators for two years.  He was also involved in a group with Jeff Piper and Amanda Broberg that was awarded third-best in the nation in the College Division Poster category for the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators Creative and Digital Design Awards Contest.

Prior to coming to Wayne State, Mike was the sports editor at the Wayne Herald from 2002-2004. He also served as the sports director for KTCH radio in Wayne for 15 years from 1987-2002. While at KTCH, Grosz was the play-by-play announcer for Wayne State women's basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball and served as a color commentator for football and men's basketball. He also broadcast hundreds of area high school football, volleyball, basketball and baseball games and still does play-by-play for local high school and college events on a part-time basis.

Grosz is also very active in the Wayne community having served six years on the City of Wayne Recreation/Leisure Service Commission and is past secretary of the Wayne Blue Devil Athletic Booster Club and Wayne Softball Association (secretary/treasurer).  He also serves on the Wayne High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.

Mike and his wife Peggy reside in Wayne.  They have two children - Ryan and Holly.
