Wayne State overcame a slow start and went on to defeat MSU Moorhead 3-1 in NSIC volleyball Friday evening at Rice Auditorium for the Wildcats' fifth straight win. Scores of the match were 15-30, 30-26, 30-23 and 30-23.
MSU Moorhead jumped out quickly, using an array of blocks, to roll in the first game 30-15 forcing WSC into 12 hitting errors. However, WSC rebounded and won the next three games by scores of 30-26, 30-23 and 30-23 as the Wildcats improved to 8-4 in league play and 16-9 overall.
Senior middle hitter Emily Schroeder recorded 19 kills and 14 digs to lead Wayne State. Brittany Van Beek accounted for 11 kills with Jordan Schaffer adding 10. Senior libero Laura Dolezal finished with 37 digs and freshman setter Jenna Jansen handed out 49 set assists for the Wildcats.
MSU Moorhead's top hitter was Megan Norling with 18 kills to go with 20 digs. Libero Calla Oftedahl had 45 digs and Julie Vancura was credited with 49 set assists. The Dragons are now 14-7 overall and 9-5 in the NSIC.
Wayne State will be at home again Saturday at 5:00 p.m. hosting #4 Concordia-St. Paul.
