#4 Concordia-St. Paul edged Wayne State 3-2 in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played Saturday evening in Wayne. Scores of the match were 30-26, 28-30, 31-33, 30-26 and 16-14. The visiting Golden Bears improve to 25-2 overall and 14-1 in the NSIC while Wayne State is now 16-10 overall and 8-5 in league play.
CSP held a slight edge in hitting over the Wildcats, .160 to .148 as the Golden Bears recorded 86 kills to 69 for Wayne State. Emily Palkert accounted for 25 kills to lead Concordia-St. Paul followed by Kate Bennett with 18. Libero Mary Slinger finished with 35 digs and Maggie McNamara, the NCAA Division II leader in assists, handed out 75 for the Golden Bears in the win.
Wayne State's Emily Schroeder finished with a rare triple-double, posting 21 kills, 16 digs and 11 blocks. Brittany Van Beek added 12 kills and Jordan Schaffer finished with 11. Libero Laura Dolezal notched 26 digs and setter Jenna Jansen was credited with 58 set assists.
The Wildcats will be at home again on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. hosting #7 Southwest Minnesota State on Black Out Night at Rice Auditorium. Fans are encouraged to come dressed in black and cheer on the Wildcats as WSC attempts to break last year's single game attendance mark of 1,382 fans.
