Wildcats post 3-0 sweep at Minnesota, Crookston

Wayne State College used a balanced hitting attack in posting a 3-0 win at Minnesota, Crookston in Northern Sun Conference volleyball Friday evening in Crookston, Minnesota as the Wildcats swept the Golden Eagles 30-26, 30-16 and 30-27.  The Wildcats improved to 12-9 overall and 5-4 in the NSIC while dropping UMC to 4-15 overall and 2-7 in league play.

Freshman Jennifer Hefner recorded 15 kills and hit .448 in the match with just two hitting errors to lead a balanced hitting attack for the Wildcats.  Senior Emily Schroeder also accounted for 15 kills while hitting .294 to go with 10 digs.  Freshman setter Jenna Jansen handed out 45 set assists while sophomore libero Tessa Wietfeld paced the Wildcats on defense with 25 digs.  Wietfeld was making her first career start at libero in place of senior Laura Dolezal, who missed the contest due to a family illness.

Wayne State hit .254 in the match while holding Minnesota, Crookston to a .113 hitting percentage.  Heather Foreman had a double-double for the Golden Eagles with 10 kills and 12 digs.  The Wildcats will travel to Bemidji, Minnesota Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. NSIC contest with Bemidji State.
