Wayne State 3 Bemidji State 1

Emily Schroeder pounded out 29 kills and recorded 10 blocks to lead Wayne State in a 3-1 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win at Bemidji State Saturday afternoon. Scores of the match were 30-25, 29-31, 30-19 and 30-28.  WSC improves to 13-9 overall and 6-4 in the NSIC with Bemidji State now 6-9 overall and 3-7 in league play.

Besides Schroeder, four other players also recorded double figures in kills with Jennifer Hefner accounting for 12, Megan Statton and Lea Hartigan with 11 apiece and Jordan Schaffer 10.  As a team, WSC hit .258 in the match to Bemidji State's .181.  Freshman setter Jenna Jansen was credited with a career-high 70 set assists while sophomore Tessa Wietfeld paced the Wildcats on defense with 25 digs.  Meredy Dubbs added 17 digs, Danielle Wessel had 13, Jansen finished with 12 digs and Hefner added 10 digs to go with seven blocks.

"It was a great weekend to get two wins on the road," remarked WSC head coach Scott Kneifl.  "It was great to have five players hit double figures in kills, we need to have that balance."  Kneifl also commented on the play of sophomore Tessa Wietfeld at libero, filling in for senior Laura Dolezal, who missed this weekend's road trip due to a family illness.  "Tessa was tremendous this weekend at libero in place of Laura Dolezal.  She had great numbers for her first-ever games at libero and she's a big reason why we won both matches on the road this weekend."

Wayne State's next action will be Wednesday evening (October 10) when the Wildcats travel to Aberdeen, South Dakota to take on Northern State in a NSIC match starting at 7:00 p.m.
