WSC women hit 11 three-pointers in 89-69 win over Minnesota, Crookston

Wayne State College built a 47-19 halftime lead enroute to a 89-69 victory over Minnesota, Crookston on Friday evening in a contest played in Crookston, Minnesota.  Wayne State is now 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NSIC, while Minnesota, Crookston dropped to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in NSIC play.                                                                                                                            

The Wildcats hit eight three-pointers in the first half to help build the big halftime lead.  Wayne State shot 48% from the field and an impressive 55% from behind the three-point line.  Wayne State won the points in the paint battle outscoring the Golden Eagles 32-24.  Wayne State also held a 13-2 advantage in second chance points, while the WSC bench outscored the Crookston bench 32-22.   

Andrea Schoepf  went 5-5 from beyond the three-point line and led the Wildcat scoring attack with 17 points.  Laquisha Cook added 15 points and Kylee McGill had 14 points and seven rebounds in the win.  Jennifer Yee and Kati Jo Christensen contributed with nine points and eight points respectively off the bench for the 'Cats.

Jamie Zelinsky led the Golden Eagles with 18 points, while Katie Cheline added 10 points.  The Golden Eagles made 23-64 shots for 35.9%, made 6 of 19 three pointers, and hit 17 of 24 free throws on the evening.

Wayne State will be back in action Saturday evening in a 6 p.m. contest at Bemidji State.
