Wayne State cruises to 89-57 win over Briar Cliff

Laquisha Cook scored 24 points to lead the Wayne State women to a 89-57 non-conference win over Briar Cliff on Sunday in Wayne.  It was the fifth straight win for the Wildcats.  WSC is now 10-2 on the season while Briar Cliff dropped to 6-7 with the loss.

Laquisha Cook scored 13 or her game-high 24 points in the first half to help get things started for Wayne State.  Wayne State never trailed in the contest and took a 39-24 lead into halftime.  The 'Cats shot 43.3 percent from the field in the first half, but held Briar Cliff to only 28 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.  The offense picked up in the second half for Wayne State as the 'Cats shot 60 percent from the field to pull away for the lopsided victory.  Wayne State shot 51.7 percent from the field on the day, hitting 31 of 60 shots.  Defensively, WSC held Briar Cliff to 32.1 percent shooting from the field.  Wayne State had a big advantage on the boards outrebounding the Chargers 47-27.   

Three players scored in double figures for Wayne State led by Cook's 24 points.  Kylee McGill added 12 points and nine rebounds and Mara Hjelle scored 10 points for WSC.  Jodie Boss scored nine points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.  Andrea Schoepf scored nine points and Amanda Covington added eight points for the 'Cats.  Sophomore guard Teresa Case handed out a career-high 11 assists for the Wildcats.  Samantha Pearson and Cat Nelson scored 12 points apiece to lead Briar Cliff in the loss.  Kayla Boyd added 10 points for the Chargers.

Wayne State will be back in action on December 30th when they host #22 South Dakota.  Gametime is set for 2:00 p.m. at Rice Auditorium.
