Late Bemidji State rally sinks Wayne State men 68-67

Bemidji State's Arrron Evans scored six points in the final 45 seconds to help the Beavers rally for a 68-67 Northern Sun Conference men's basketball win Saturday night in Bemidji, Minnesota.  BSU improves to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC while WSC slips to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.

WSC held a 40-33 halftime advantage and maintained a lead of 4-8 points for most of the second half until Evans came through in the final minute for Bemidji State.  With WSC leading 67-62 with 45 seconds remaining, Evans score on a layup with :35 left to cut the 'Cat lead to three at 67-64.  Following a Bryce Caldwell turnover, Evans scored on another layup with just :29 seconds left to make the score 67-66.  Caldwell missed a free throw for WSC with :21 seconds to go and Evans scored again with :13 to go, giving BSU a 68-67 lead.  WSC had one last chance to win the game but Jamar Diggs came up short on a jumper with two seconds remaining and the Beavers rallied for the win.

Caldwell led all scorers in the game with 22 points for Wayne State.  Diggs added 18 and senior center Matt Rathje scored 11.  The Wildcats were 24 of 51 from the field for 47.1 percent, 6 of 18 from the three point line and 13 of 19 at the free throw line.

Brady Fairbanks led Bemidji State with 16 points followed by Evans and Seth Haake with 12 apiece.  The Beavers shot 40.3 percent from the field on 25 of 62.  BSU was 7 of 25 from the three point line and 11 of 17 at the charity stripe.

Both teams had 37 rebounds in the contest with Diggs and Rathje grabbing seven boards each for Wayne State.

The Wildcats close their six game road trip Tuesday evening with a non-conference matchup at Augustana College in Sioux Falls with tip off set for 8:00 p.m.
