Wayne State holds off Northern State 66-63

The Wayne State women held off a second half rally from Northern State to win a close 66-63 contest over the Wolves on Saturday evening in Wayne.  With the win, Wayne State moves to 8-2 overall on the season and 3-1 in the NSIC.  The loss drops Northern State to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC.

The Wildcats never trailed in the contest and took a 36-24 lead into halftime.  The 'Cats led by as many as 16 in the second half, but Northern State chipped away at the big lead.  A three pointer by Kimberly Lewis with just under five minutes left to play cut the lead to four at 57-53.  However, Kylee McGill scored seven points down the stretch to help the 'Cats hold off the Wolves.  Wayne State shot 42.9 percent from the field, 35 percent from behind the three point line, and 73.9 percent from the free throw line in the contest.  The 'Cats hit seven three-pointers on the evening.

Three players scored in double-figures for Wayne State on the evening.  Kylee McGill led the way with 19 points.  Jodie Boss scored a career-high 16 points and also blocked four shots, and Andrea Schoepf added 10 points for the Wildcats in the win.  Noelle Hall scored 16 points to lead Northern State in the loss.  Kimberly Lewis and Krissy O'Toole added 10 points apiece for the Wolves.

Wayne State will be back in action on December 15th and 16th when they host Mount Mercy and Briar Cliff.  Both of those contests will start at 2 p.m. at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.
