Bemidji State blanks WSC 3-0 in NSIC soccer opener

Bemidji State scored three goals in the second half to pull away for a 3-0 win over Wayne State College in the Northern Sun Conference women's soccer opener for both teams Saturday morning in Wayne. 

After a scoreless first half, Bemidji State opened the scoring on a Kelly Hyvare goal in the 58th minute to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.  Danielle Uphoff put BSU in front 2-0 on a goal in the 67th minute followed by a goal from Kim Sorteberg at the 81:15 mark to make the final score 3-0 Bemidji State.

The Beavers held a 10-8 lead in shots over the Wildcats, including 6-3 in shots on goal.  Valerie Robinson had two of the three shots on goal for WSC with the other by Erin Fullmer.  WSC freshman goalkeeper Emily Walker started the game but suffered an ankle injury and gave way to Rachel Fuchs, who was credited with three saves while allowing three goals in the loss. 

Bemidji State is now 5-5-1 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC while WSC slipped to 0-7-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.  Wayne State will be at home again Sunday as the Wildcats host Minnesota, Crookston for Parent's Day starting at 1 p.m.
