#24 Wayne State 3 Minnesota, Crookston 1
Jennifer Hefner and Mindy Moody combined for 31 kills to lead 24th-ranked Wayne State in a 3-1 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win at Minnesota, Crookston Friday evening. Scores of the match were 25-13, 25-19, 15-25 and 25-21. The Wildcats improved to 15-3 overall and 5-3 in the NSIC with the win while Minnesota, Crookston slips to 2-15 overall and 2-6 in league play.
Hefner, a sophomore from Archer, Nebraska (Central City HS), pounded out 17 kills with just one error to hit .593 for the match while Moody, a freshman from Sioux City, Iowa (Heelan HS), recorded a career-high 14 kills while hitting .400 for the contest. As a team, Wayne State hit .298 for the match compared to .168 for the Golden Eagles.
Sophomore setter Jenna Jansen handed out 43 set assists to go with seven digs. Meredy Dubbs and Tessa Wietfeld each recorded eight digs to lead the Wildcats on defense.
Wayne State will be in action again on Saturday when the Wildcats visit MSU Moorhead in a 4:00 p.m. NSIC contest.
