MSU Moorhead 2 Wayne State 1
MSU Moorhead scored two goals in the first 15:00 minutes as the Dragons edged Wayne State College 2-1 in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer played Saturday in Moorhead, Minnesota. The host Dragons improved to 7-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the NSIC while Wayne State slipped to 1-15-1 overall and 1-9 in league play.
MSU Moorhead's Richelle Ross opened the scoring at the 7:36 mark to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead and scored again in the 15th minute on a goal by Tricia Vanyo to make the score 2-0 in favor of MSU Moorhead. The score stayed the same until the 74:23 mark in the second half when Wayne State's Rachel Fuchs scored her first career goal with an assist by Tiffani Kellerman to cut the Dragon lead to 2-1, ending the scoring in the contest.
MSU Moorhead held a 34-22 advantage in shots over Wayne State but WSC had three corner kicks to just one for the Dragons. Wildcat goalkeeper Emily Walker notched 21 saves in the contest for WSC in a losing effort.
Wayne State will be in action again on Sunday as the Wildcats visit Minnesota, Crookston for a 1:00 p.m. NSIC contest.
