#4 Southwest Minnesota State 3 #23 Wayne State 1
Despite a game-high 16 kills from Wayne State's Brittany Van Beek, NCAA Division II 4th-ranked Southwest Minnesota State defeated the 23rd-ranked Wildcats 3-1 in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Minnesota. Scores of the game were 25-18, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-18. SMSU is now 23-3 overall and 12-2 in the league while Wayne State falls to 20-5 overall and 9-4 in the NSIC following the loss.
The host Mustangs outhit WSC in the contest .292-.201 as SMSU had 61 kills to the Wildcats' 48. Both teams had 144 attacks and 19 hitting errors.
Senior Brittany Van Beek accounted for a game-high 16 kills to lead Wayne State in hitting followed by Jennifer Hefner with 10. Meredy Dubbs recorded a team-high 14 digs while Diedra Artz had 27 set assists for WSC.
The Wildcats return to action next weekend, hosting St. Cloud State Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and #1 ranked Concordia, St. Paul on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
