#9 Southwest Minnesota State 3 Wayne State 0

            NCAA Division II 9th-ranked Southwest Minnesota State handed Wayne State its first loss of the season in the Northern Sun Conference opener for both teams at Rice Auditorium Tuesday evening as the Mustangs swept the Wildcats in three games.  Scores of the match were 31-29, 25-20 and 25-22.  SMSU is now 12-1 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC while WSC slips to 9-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.

            The Mustangs controlled the net outhitting the Wildcats .225 to .137 and had 10 blocks to just two for WSC.  Kasey Loeslie, this week's NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, led Southwest Minnesota State in hitting with 14 kills. 

            For Wayne State, senior outside hitter Danielle Wessel notched a double-double to lead the Wildcats with 14 kills and 10 digs.  Senior Meredy Dubbs had 11 digs for the 'Cats with Tessa Wietfeld and Tali Fredrickson accounting for 10 digs apiece.  Sophomore setter Diedra Artz handed out 26 set assists.

            Wayne State hits the road this weekend for a pair of Northern Sun Conference contests visiting Northern State Friday night and the University of Mary on Saturday.
