Sophomore middle hitter Jennifer Hefner pounded out 14 kills to lead Wayne State College in a 3-0 Northern Sun Conference volleyball victory at Northern State in Aberdeen, South Dakota Friday night. The Wildcats improve to 10-1 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC while dropping the host Wolves to 9-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
Hefner, a Central City graduate, hit .538 for the match without recording a hitting error to lead the Wildcats in hitting. She also finished with four blocks in the match. Wayne State hit .262 in the match while holding Northern State to .097. Tali Fredrickson added nine kills while Danielle Wessel finished with seven for the Wildcats.
Senior Meredy Dubbs paced the Wildcats on defense with 19 digs followed by Wessel with 13 and Fredrickson 12. Sophomore setter Diedra Artz handed out 33 set assists for Wayne State in the win.
Wayne State be in action again Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats visit the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota for a 5:00 p.m. match.
