Northern State 2, Wayne State 1
Summer Swan scored in the 82nd minute to give Northern State a 2-1 NSIC soccer win over Wayne State on Saturday afternoon in Wayne. With the win, Northern State is 5-4 on the year and 1-1 in the NSIC. With the loss, WSC is 0-9-1 on the year and 0-3 in the NSIC.
NSU's Maggie Fedor scored an unassisted goal early in the first half to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. The goal was Fedor's fifth of the year. Val Robinson got the 'Cats on the board with a penalty kick goal later in the first half which tied the game at 1-1. Robinson now has a team-high four goals on the season for Wayne State. Northern State held a sizable advantage in shots over Wayne State and kept the pressure on WSC for much of the game. However, the score remained tied until late in the second half when Swan scored the game-winner for NSU. It was Swan's second goal of the season.
Northern State held a 20-2 advantage in shots over Wayne State. NSU had nine corner kicks to just one for WSC. Dee Wood made one save and allowed one goal to earn the win in goal for Northern State. Rachel Fuchs took the loss in net for Wayne State allowing one goal and making four saves.
Wayne State will host the University of Mary on Sunday afternoon in an NSIC contest. The game is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Wayne State Soccer Complex.
