Wildcats Take Down Golden Eagles 2-1

            Hayley Setzer's goal at the 80:23 mark of the second half proved to be the game winner as the Wayne State defeated Minnesota, Crookston 2-1. The win makes the Wildcats 4-12-1 overall and 1-8-1 in the NSIC and the loss drops the Golden Eagles to 2-11-2 overall and 0-9-1 in the NSIC.

            The Wildcats dominated the first half outshooting the Golden Eagles 11-3. Junior Mikayla Comba started the scoring for WSC with her first career goal off of a 25 yard free kick at the 20:29 mark of the first half. UMC dominated the opening minutes of the second half, Justine Jones scored her fifth goal of the year off of a 30 yard chip shot at the 79:04 mark of the second half. WSC responded one minute later when Hayley Setzer scored her first career goal to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.

            WSC outshot Minnesota,Crookston 17-16, in the game and had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

            Comba led the Wildcats offensively with six shots and Valerie Robinson added three for WSC. Goalkeeper Emily Walker had three saves for the Wildcats.

            Jones led the Golden Eagles with three shots and Megan Gibeault had three as well for UMC. Goalkeeper Anna Ogaard had seven saves in goal for UMC.

            Wayne State will be at home again Sunday afternoon hosting MSU Moorhead in a Northern Sun Conference contest starting at 1:00 p.m. at the WSC Soccer Complex.
