Wayne State College, ranked 15th in NCAA Division II, defeated St. Cloud State 3-0 (25-15,25-19,25-17) in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played Friday evening in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The win makes the Wildcats 24-4 overall and 12-2 in the NSIC and the loss drops the Huskies to 6-21 overall and 2-13 in the NSIC.
Jennifer Hefner led the way for the Wildcats with 11 kills on the night. Freshman Madison Pernicek added 10 and Tali Fredrickson had eight kills for Wayne State. Setter Diedra Artz was credited with 34 set assists on the evening. Defensively, Leigh Connot had a team high 17 digs and Tali Fredrickson added 11 for WSC. Sophomore Mindy Moody had seven blocks and Shelby Schultz and Pernicek each added three blocks for Wayne State.
The Huskies were led offensively by Ashley Shields with nine kills on the night for SCSU. Setter Lauren Cipperly was credited with 20 set assists on the night for St. Cloud State. Defensively, St. Cloud State was led by Chelsea Nagle who had nine digs and Stephanie Coxon with eight digs.
Wayne State will be on the road again Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats play at unbeaten (26-0) and top-ranked Concordia - St. Paul in a Northern Sun Conference contest starting at 5:00 p.m.
