Wayne State junior guard Jason Jensen scorched the nets for 30 points, sinking all six of his three point shots while making 11 of 15 shots from the field, to power the Wildcats in an 81-36 non-conference men's basketball rout at Dakota State Wednesday evening in Madison, South Dakota. WSC has won two straight and improves to 4-6 on the season while Dakota State falls to 5-6 overall.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 12-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game and went on to build a commanding 44-14 lead at halftime. The second half saw WSC shoot a sizzling 66.7 percent from the field, making 14 of 21 shots, as the Wildcats cruised to the easy 81-36 win over the Trojans.
Jensen, a 6-4 junior from Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Texas-Pan American), sank 11 of 15 shots overall and made all six of his three point shots, to score 30 points in leading the Wildcats in scoring. Sophomore guard Elijah Miller added 11 points followed by Amry Shelby and Brett Spiker with 10 points apiece.
For the game, WSC shot a season-best 61.7 percent from the field, making 29 of 47 shots from the field. It was the third straight game that the Wildcats have shot 55 percent or better from the field. WSC was 8 of 14 from the three point line and 15 of 17 (88.2%) at the free throw stripe.
Dakota State's top scorer was Spencer Adams with 10 points. The Trojans were held to 30 percent shooting (15 of 50) by Wayne State.
WSC held a commanding 35-19 edge in rebounding over the Trojans as Brian Metz hauled in nine boards to lead the Wildcats followed by Spiker with eight caroms.
Wayne State returns to Northern Sun Conference play this weekend, playing at Minnesota Duluth Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and at Bemidji State Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
