Wayne State College landed eight players on the Omaha World Herald's All-Nebraska NCAA Division II Baseball Team announced today by the newspaper. The Wildcats placed five players on the First Team, the most of any NCAA DII school in Nebraska, while three others received honorable mention. Those named to the First Team were pitcher Chad Moreland (7-2), first baseman Alex Koch (.341), outfielders Joe Wendte (.396) and Justin Hemauer (.367) and utility player Eric Bond (.365).
Three players receiving honorable mention honors include first baseman Treye Hacker, catcher John Plasha and starting pitcher John Snyder. Wayne State finished the 2009 season with a 45-15 record and won a sixth straight Northern Sun Conference regular season title, going 27-4 in league play, the most ever wins by a NSIC team in league play. The Wildcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament for a sixth straight season and the seventh time in the last nine years and reached the NCAA Central Regional title game before falling to Mesa State 8-2.
