Megan Dias had two goals and one assist to power Wayne State College in a 3-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer win at Minnesota, Crookston Sunday afternoon. Coupled with Saturday's 2-0 win at MSU Moorhead, it's the first time since September 16-17, 2006 (at Bemidji State and Minnesota, Crookston) that WSC swept a NSIC road trip in women's soccer. The Wildcats are now 7-5-4 overall and 3-4-4 in the NSIC while Minnesota, Crookston falls to 2-12-2 overall and 2-9 in league play.
Wayne State got on the board early as Liz Israelsen scored 1:37 into the contest off a pass from Megan Dias to give the Wildcats an early 1-0 advantage. The 'Cats extended their lead to 2-0 just before halftime as Dias scored on a breakaway at the 43:50 mark with Alexa Romek getting the assist. WSC added an insurance goal late in the contest at the 87:13 mark as Dias scored her second goal of the game off a rebound to make the final score 3-0.
The Wildcats outshot Minnesota, Crookston 14-6 including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. WSC had seven corner kicks to three for the Golden Eagles while the Wildcats were called for 18 fouls to 14 on UMC. Senior goalkeeper Emily Walker posted her second straight shutout in goal for the Wildcats, credited with two saves to improve her season mark to 7-5-4.
Wayne State will be on the road again next weekend with road contests at Concordia-St. Paul Saturday and at St. Cloud State Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m. each day.
