WSC baseball earns split at #29 St. Cloud State

            Wayne
State split a Northern Sun Conference baseball doubleheader at #29 St. Cloud State Wednesday afternoon. In the opener, Wayne State's Josh Voth out-dueled St. Cloud State's David Deminsky as the Wildcats posted a 2-1 win over the Huskies.  The second game St. Cloud State score five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Huskies salvaged a split with an 8-4 win over the Wildcats.

            Wayne State got on the board first in the first game. The Wildcats scored in the third inning as a Joe Wendte single scored John Plasha from second base to give the Wildcats the 1-0 lead. St. Cloud State got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1. The Wildcats fired right back adding a run in the fifth inning when Jarett Jackson scored on an RBI single by Jake Ritzdorf. The Wildcats would hold on to the lead and win game one 2-1.

            Josh Voth (2-4) pitched a complete game for Wayne State. The senior struck out three batters and allowed eight hits and one run. Wendte was 1 for 4 with an RBI in game one. Plasha was 1 for 3 on the day with a run scored. Ritzdorf added a hit and an RBI for Wayne State.

            In the second game, Wayne State opened the scoring as Joe Wendte scored on a Mike Bisenius RBI single to put the 'Cats up 1-0.  After St. Cloud State tied the score in the bottom of the inning, WSC regained the lead in the fourth as John Plasha homered to give WSC a 2-1 lead.  St. Cloud then scored two runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to take a 8-2 lead.  WSC scored twice in the seventh on a Mike Bisenius two-run homer that also scored Nick Bidroski, who walked, to make the final score 8-4.

            WSC out hit SCSU 9-8 in the game.  Bisenisu finished 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI's while Plasha was 2 for 3 with a homer.  Josh Nielsen added two hits for WSC in the loss.

            Tadd Johansen (2-1) suffered the pitching loss, allowing three runs on five hits over 4 1 /3 innings.  Michael Frericks and Josh Nelsen pitched in relief for WSC.    

            Wayne State will close out the regular season at home this weekend hosting Minnesota, Crookston in Northern Sun Conference doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday starting at noon each day.
