The Wayne State Women's Soccer team got their first Northern Sun Conference victory of the season with a 1-0 victory over Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday and improved their overall record to 4-9-2 on the season while being 1-8-1 in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston drops to 3-11-1 on the season with a 2-7-1 conference record.
Wayne State was unable to capitalize on two open net opportunities in the first half with Liz Isrealsen and Kelly Lange each firing wide. At the half, WSC held a 9-2 advantage in shots over UMC and had three corner kicks to zero for Crookston but the score remained tied 0-0.
Darian Mochizuki broke the scoring drought in the 50th minute for WSC and put the 'Cats up 1-0 on her first goal of the season. The Wildcat defense was able to hold up the next 40 minutes and preserve the 1-0 shutout over the Golden Eagles. WSC finished the game with 20 shots and Liz Israelsen led the attack with seven shots and Kelly Lange followed with three shots of her own. Darian Mochizuki, Alexa Romek, Christie Johnson and Alex Mathers notched two goals apiece for the Wildcat offense while Kelsey Meyer and Mallory Hoyt each recorded a shot as well. Goalkeeper Ryan Wells recorded her first collegiate victory in the contest and was credited three saves for the Wildcats
Wayne State is in action again tomorrow (October 23) hosting MSU Moorhead at 1:00 p.m. at the WSC Soccer Complex.
