Concordia-St. Paul 2 Wayne State 1 2 OT
Concordia-St. Paul's Sarah Pieper scored on a 10-yard shot 3:08 into the second overtime to give the Golden Bears a 2-1 double overtime win over Wayne State in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex in Wayne. Wayne State ends the season at 5-11-2 overall and 2-10-1 in NSIC play. It was the third overtime setback for the Wildcats in the last three weeks.
The visiting Golden Bears opened the scoring at the 15:16 mark as Amanda Olsen booted a 15-yard shot off the bottom of the crossbar past Wildcat goalkeeper Ryan Wells to give Concordia an early 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until early in the second half when Wayne State's Alexa Romek took the ball away from a Concordia player and blasted a 25 yard shot past Concordia-St. Paul goalkeeper Megan Kurtz for her team leading third goal of the season to even the score at 1-1.
The contest went into overtime and remained tied at 1-1 into the second overtime when Concordia's Sarah Pieper got a pass from Olsen and pushed a 10 yard shot past WSC goalkeeper Ryan Wells to give the Golden Bears the 2-1 win.
WSC finished with a 23-13 advantage in shots over Concordia-St. Paul, including 8-6 in shots on goals. The Wildcats also held a 8-3 edge in corner kicks while CU had nine fouls to just three on the Wildcats.
Liz Israelsen had six shots to lead Wayne State followed by Kelsey Meyer with five. Ryan Wells was credited with four saves for the Wildcats.
The game marked the final contest for four Wildcat seniors – Liz Israelsen, Christie Johnson, Kelsey Meyer and Darian Mochizuki.
