Winona State scored the lone goal of the match at the 54:04 minute mark as the Warriors recorded a 1-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer win over Wayne State College Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex. Winona State is now 13-3 overall and 12-1-1 in the NSIC while WSC falls to 1-14-1 and 1-11-1 in league play.
Taylor Zehren scored her second goal of the season for the Warriors and it turned out to be the only goal of the match when she buried a header into the back of the net off a cross from teammate Mehan Bolton.
Winona State narrowly edged the Wildcats in shots 12-10 while both teams were granted one corner kick and the Wildcats had five fouls to the Warriors' four fouls.
Bridget Hansen led the Wayne State offense with three shots (two on goal) while
McKenna Adams had two shots and
Mallory Hoyt,
Makenzie Evans,
Kara Naumann,
Jordan Hobza and
Kayli Hopper all recorded one shot for WSC. Freshman goalkeeper
Courtney True recorded six saves while allowing one goal.
Wayne State will complete their season next weekend with a road game at University of Sioux Falls Friday night (October 26
th) at 7:00 p.m. and will be at home next Sunday to close out the regular season hosting Southwest Minnesota State at 1:00 p.m.
