WSC racks up 587 yards in 49-6 win over MSU Moorhead in NSIC opener

            Wayne State College racked up 587 yards of total offense in rolling to a 49-6 win over MSU Moorhead in the Northern Sun Conference football opener for both teams played Saturday afternoon at Alex Nemzek Stadium in Moorhead, Minnesota.  With the win, the Wildcats improved to 7-1 in league openers under head coach Dan McLaughlin.
            The Wildcats used a big play offense to score most of its points with four scoring plays over 40 yards including two that were over 80 yards in the win.  WSC dominated the first half of play gaining 323 yards while holding MSU Moorhead to just 52 yards of total offense including minus three yards rushing. 
            WSC scored on its first possession of the game as junior quarterback Nate Most connected with sophomore wide receiver Adam Stark on a 49 yard scoring play to put the Wildcats up 7-0 with 12:04 to play in the first quarter.  Later in the quarter WSC struck again as Most and Stark teamed up on an 83-yard scoring strike, giving the Wildcats a 14-0 advantage at the 6:19 mark of the first quarter.
            WSC added two more scores in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead at halftime.  Senior running back Nick Pulscher scored on a four-yard run, capping a seven play drive that covered 53 yards, giving the Wildcats a 21-0 lead with 7:15 to play in the first half.  The 'Cats added another score just before halftime with 1:03 left as senior wide receiver Kevin Paulsen was on the receiving end of a 25-yard pass from Most, giving WSC a 28-0 lead.
            The lone score of the third quarter came on a Charlie Davidson 43 yard run with 1:35 remaining in the third quarter, giving the Wildcats a 35-0 lead after three quarters.
            Redshirt freshman quarterback Brian Kent saw action in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats and made his presence known immediately with an 81 yard run coming with 10:38 to play in the game, giving WSC a 42-0 lead.  The Dragons got on the scoreboard midway through the fourth quarter as Zayne Medhaug found the end zone on a two yard run making the score 42-6 with 6:18 to play.  WSC added a score late as backup running back Kendrick Hester scored on a five yard run to make the final score 49-6. 
            Wayne State finished the game with 587 yards of total offense, gaining 303 yards on the ground and 284 through the air.  MSU Moorhead had 217 yards with 151 passing and 66 rushing.  Charlie Davidson, a junior college transfer from Wheaton, Illinois (College of Dupage) making his Wildcat debut, led WSC in rushing with 127 yards on just 14 carries and one score.  Senior Nick Pulscher added 89 yards on 18 attempts with one score. 
            Junior quarterback Nate Most completed 15 of 21 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.  Senior Kevin Paulsen had a team-high five receptions for 85 yards and one TD followed by Cole McDaniel with three receptions.  Sophomore Adam Stark had a big day receiving with two catches for 132 yards and both resulting in touchdowns.
            Defensively, senior nose guard Jeff Pokorny had nine tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss to pace the Wildcats.  Senior defensive end Richard Daniel added six tackles with two sacks and two forced fumbles.  Austan Pomajzl and Travis Anderson each recorded interceptions for the Wildcat defense.                    
            Wayne State will be in action again next Saturday as the Wildcats host NSIC newcomer Minot State in the home opener with kickoff slated
