WSC women's soccer picks up first win of the season with 1-0 victory over MSU Moorhead

                Wayne State College got their first win of the season on Sunday afternoon by defeating MSU Moorhead 1-0 in a game held at the Wayne State College Soccer Complex. Makenzie Evans scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick at the 27:57 mark to give Wayne State the 1-0 victory. The Wildcats are now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play while the Dragons fall to 0-5 and 0-3 in league play.
                Wayne State came out in the contest as the more aggressive team and held a 13-3 advantage on shots in the first half. MSU Moorhead would outshoot WSC in the second half 9-7 as the Wildcats held an overall edge of 20-12 in shots for the contest. Both teams had seven corner kicks in the game while Wayne State was the more physical team with 14 fouls to only three for MSUM.  The Wildcats had a shots on goal advantage of 15-6.
                Macy Hagen led the 'Cats in shots with six while Makenzie Evans was second with three shots. Josie Brown, Kelly Voigt and Hailey Smith each attempted two shots and Mallory Hoyt, Alex Mathers, Bridget Hansen, Natalie Poppe and McKenna Adams each recorded one shot. Evan's goal at the 27:57 mark was the only goal of the game and it was her first goal on the season. The scoring opportunity happened when MSU Moorhead was called for handball in the goalie box.
                Freshman goalkeeper Kylie Comba improved to 1-5 on the season guarding the net for all 90 minutes for WSC. She recorded six saves in the shutout while Ashley Leintz was tagged with the loss and is now 0-3 after allowing the one goal and notching 14 saves.
The Wildcats will be at home again next Saturday on homecoming with the game against Minnesota Crookston set for 11:00 a.m. at the WSC Soccer Complex.
