Minot State Scores With One Second Left to Defeat Wayne State

            Minot State scores a goal with one second left on the clock to give the Beavers a 2-1 victory over Wayne State in Northern Sun soccer play Sunday afternoon in Wayne at the Wayne State College Soccer Complex.  With the win Minot State improves to 8-6-2 on the season overall with a 7-5-1 record in the NSIC while Wayne State falls to 2-13-1 overall on the season with a 1-12 record in the NSIC.
            Wayne State struck first in the match with an early goal from Makenzie Evans in the 5th minute where she took the ball from the Beaver defender at the top of the box and made the shot on goal for her first goal of the season.  The rest of the half was mostly back and forth between the two sides.  In the second half Minot State scored the tying goal in the 55th minute off of a set piece where Emilie Rebelo scored the header off of the corner kick from Jamie MacFarlane.  Then, with four seconds left the Wildcats were called for a foul and Minot State was awarded a free kick from the right side of the box.  The ball was sent in by Emilie Rebelo and with one second left Gemma Biasetto put the ball in the back of the net for the game winning goal. 
            The Beavers outshot the Wildcats with 18 shots in the match with just seven by the Wildcats.  However, the 'Cats held the distinct advantage in corner kicks in the match by earning seven corners in the match with just two being earned by Minot State.  The Wildcats were also whistled for nine fouls in the match to six fouls called on Minot State.
            Offensively, Makenzie Evans led the Wildcats by scoring her first goal of the season on her only shot of the match.  Rachel Mabrey and Josie Brown added two shots and Amber Lingle and McKenna Adams each added one shot for the match. 
            Sophomore goalkeeper Kylie Comba made five saves in the loss for Wayne State, and now has a record of1-2 on the season.
            The Wildcats will play their final home game of the 2014 season on Friday afternoon, hosting Southwest Minnesota State in a 1 p.m. contest at the WSC Soccer Complex.
