#11 Wayne State 3 St. Cloud State 0 Junior outside hitter
Katie Hughes recorded a match-high 13 kills and posted an eighth double-double in her last nine matches to lead #11 Wayne State College in a 25-16, 25-21 and 25-15 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep at St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The Wildcats improve to 22-5 on the season and 14-4 in league play while St. Cloud State drops to 7-19 and 1-17 in the NSIC.
The Wildcats used five service aces in the first set and forced six St. Cloud State attack errors to cruise in a 25-16 first set win over the Huskies.
The second set was much closer with eight ties and three lead changes, but the Wildcats recorded four blocks in the set while forcing nine SCSU attack errors as Wayne State took a 2-0 lead with a 25-21 set win.
The third set saw numerous long rallies as sophomore
Michaela Mestl was credited with 10 of Wayne State's 32 digs in the set while Hughes pounded out seven kills in the final set to lead the Wildcats in a 25-15 win to complete the sweep over St. Cloud State.
Wayne State hit .191 in the match while holding SCSU to a .109 attack percentage. The 'Cats had one more kill than the Huskies, 37-36, while the Huskies held a 72-67 advantage in digs against WSC. Wayne State had 10 service aces in the contest with just one error and had one more block than SCSU, 6-5.
Hughes was the lone Wildcat in double digit kills with a match-high 13. Coupled with her 14 digs, Hughes recorded her 16
th double-double of the season.
Elizabeth Gebhardt followed with eight kills and had five blocks.

Michaela Mestl led WSC in digs with 17 and had five service aces while junior libero
Courtney VanGroningen finished with 16 digs. Sophomore middle hitter
Alex Opperman led the 'Cats with six blocks while junior setter
Leisa McClintock handed out 27 set assists.
Wayne State will close out the regular season at home next weekend, hosting Minnesota Crookston Friday at 7 p.m. and Bemidji State Saturday in a 5 p.m. contest at Rice Auditorium.
