Former Wayne State All-American volleyball player Taya Beller has signed a contract to play for Universitario de Deportes in the Peruvian Volleyball League.
Beller played last season with the Atlanta Vibe in the Professional Volleyball Federation and made league history when she became the first Division II player to make an opening day roster in the PVF. She saw action in eight matches playing 21 sets for the Vibe, averaging 1.24 kills and 0.24 blocks per set.
There are 12 teams in the Peruvian Volleyball League, which has limits on the number of foreign players while promoting local talent. Beller is one of three American players on the team that also includes former Pittsburgh outside hitter Catherine Flood. The roster of 21 players includes 14 players from Peru, four from Brazil and three from the United States.
Beller, a 6-2 middle hitter from Lindsay (Humphrey HS), was a three-time AVCA and D2CCA All-American and four-time All-NSIC First Team selection for the Wayne State volleyball team from 2019-24. She ended her Wildcat career ranked fourth in all-time kills with 1,545 and second in career hitting percentage at .369. Beller helped WSC win back-to-back NSIC regular season titles along with one NCAA Central Region championship in 2023 and a trip to the Division II Elite 8 in Moon Township, Pa.
