Wayne State College head women's basketball coach
Chris Kielsmeier announced today that Sadie Murren will transfer from the University of Nebraska and play her final two seasons with the Wildcats. Murren joins five other players, who signed with Wayne State during the early NCAA signing period last November, as members of the 2014-15 recruiting class.
"Sadie will play the point guard position for us," commented Kielsmeier. "She is a complete guard that handles the ball great and will work hard to get everyone involved. Sadie can also shoot the ball outstanding and has the ability to create her own shot whenever she wants to. She loves to attack the basket and can make tough shots."
Murren, a 5-8 guard from Colon, Nebraska, averaged 2.6 points and 1.0 rebounds per game while appearing in 25 games as a backup guard for the Huskers this season. Averaging 8.3 minutes per game, Murren shot 46.5 percent from the field and 71.4 percent at the free throw line for Nebraska. This week (Monday), she was named the 2014 Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award winner for women's basketball and an inaugural member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Murren was a standout high school player at Wahoo High School where she was a three-time Class C-1 First-Team All-State selection while being named honorary captain of the Class C-1 All-State Team as a senior. During her senior season, she averaged 17.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game for the Warriors and finished her high school career with 1,449 points, 402 assists and 255 steals while draining 166 3-pointers. Murren was a Second Team Super State (Lincoln Journal Star) and Second Team All-Nebraska (Omaha World Herald) as a junior and senior in high school. She also excelled in the classroom in high school, earning Academic All-State honors in basketball and track and field with a perfect 4.00 grade point average.
"As good of player as Sadie is, she is an even better person," added Kielsmeier. "She is an exceptional student and has tremendous leadership skills. Sadie is a fierce competitor that wants to win at the highest level possible and we expect her to bring a lot to our program both on and off the court."
Murren joins 6-1 forward/center Paige Ballinger of Pender, 5-9 shooting guard Jasmin Bretoi of Lino Lakes, Minnesota, 5-10 forward Kacie O'Connor from Sundance, Wyoming, 6-3 center Taylor Reiner of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and 6-0 guard/forward Maggie Schulte from Wynot, who signed with Wayne State during the NCAA early signing period last November.
