Wayne State drops two at #6 Minnesota State

            #6 Minnesota State extended its win streak to 15 consecutive games with a sweep over Wayne State in Northern Sun Conference baseball played Friday afternoon at the MSU Baseball Complex in Mankato, Minnesota by scores of 14-4 and 14-3.  The host Mavericks are now 38-7 and 26-4 in the NSIC while Wayne State is now 25-20 and 18-13 in league play.
            MSU built at 10-0 lead after three innings to cruise in the opener.  WSC scored all four runs in the fourth inning as Aaron Molinaro delivered an RBI single to score Michael Herman while Alex Kreft came through with a bases-loaded clearing double that scored Mike Servais, Molinaro and Jake Perez.
            Minnesota State had 17 hits in the opener while WSC amassed eight by eight different players.  Kreft had the lone extra base hit for the Wildcats, a double, along with three RBI's.  Chris May, John Roberts, Herman, Skye O'Neil, Perez, Molinaro and Servais each singled.
            Starter Dylan McGill (4-4) was roughed up early and tagged with the loss, charged with 10 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings with two walks and two strikeouts.
            The second game saw the Mavericks snap a 3-3 tie with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and added three more in the fifth and four in the sixth to down the 'Cats 14-3 in seven innings.
            After MSU took a 3-0 cushion with three runs in the second, WSC tied the score with three in the top of the fourth.
            Jake Perez singled and was followed by an Aaron Molinaro home run.  Nick McIntee then homered to even the score at 3-3.
            But MSU strung together four hits and used two WSC errors to score four runs and take the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth at 7-3.
            WSC was held to just five hits in the second game, led by Molinaro and McIntee solo home runs.  Perez finished 2 for 3 with a run scored while Herman also singled.
            Matt Russell (2-2) suffered the pitching loss, giving up 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. 
            Wayne State and Minnesota State face each other again Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon in Mankato.
