Northern State 2 Wayne State 1

            Northern State built a 2-0 lead, then held off a Wayne State rally to top the Wildcats 2-1 in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer played Saturday afternoon at Jerde Field in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  The host Wolves are now 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC while WSC falls to 1-5-1 and 0-4 in league play.
            The host Wolves scored both of their goals in the first four minutes of each half to take a 2-0 lead.  Wayne State pulled within a goal at the 70:52 mark when sophomore defender Valerie Hernandez scored with an assist by freshman forward Veronica Walker to pull within 2-1, but that's as close as WSC could get as the Wolves held on for the win.
            Wayne State held a 15-12 advantage in shots over Northern State, including 6-5 in shots on goal.  Both teams had five corner kicks while WSC was called for nine fouls to six for Northern State.
            Kelsea Lambert led WSC offensively with five shots followed by Hernandez with two, including her first goal of the season.  Freshman goalkeeper Margaret Harma played the entire game in goal for the Wildcats and faced 12 shots with three saves and two goals allowed.
            Wayne State will conclude their NSIC road Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at MSU Moorhead.
