#14 NMSU uses 55 percent shooting to take down WSC men

            #14 Northwest Missouri State shot 55 percent from the field to lead from start to finish in a 89-55 win over Wayne State College Saturday evening at the Hillyard Tip-Off Men's Basketball Classic in St. Joseph, Missouri.  The Bearcats are 1-1 on the season while WSC falls to 0-2.
            Northwest Missouri State took an 11-4 lead on the Wildcats in the first four minutes of the contest.  WSC got as close as three at 18-15 followed by Jordan Cornelius layup with 13:06 to play in the half.
            But the Bearcats scored nine straight points to take a 27-15 lead with 9:15 to go in the half.  After WSC pulled within seven, 38-31 at the 4:30 mark, NMSU went on a 12-2 run to end the half for a 50-33 lead over the Wildcats.
            Northwest Missouri State never gave WSC a chance to get back into the game in the second half, pulling away for the 89-55 win.
            NMSU made 29 of 52 shots in the game for 55.8 percent, going 4 of 10 from the 3-point line.  The Bearcats were 27 for 37 at the free throw stripe.
            WSC shot just 37.9 percent on 22 of 58, making just 4 of 22 behind the arc, and 4 of 6 at the free throw line.
            Junior guard Joel Heesch led Wayne State in scoring with 13 points followed by Matt Thomas with 10.
            The Wildcats were outrebounded 41-24 with Adam Moon grabbing five boards for WSC. 
            Wayne State had 12 turnovers in the game to just seven by Northwest Missouri State.       
            Wayne State will host Iowa Wesleyan on Friday evening in the home opener for the Wildcats in a 7 p.m. contest at Rice Auditorium.
