Poor shooting dooms WSC in loss at #25 Sioux Falls

            Wayne State College shot a season-low 23.5 percent from the field as the University of Sioux Falls Cougars avenged an earlier loss to the Wildcats (83-73 in Wayne January 3rd) with a resounding 84-46 victory Friday evening in Northern Sun Conference women's basketball played at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The host Cougars are now 21-4 and 15-4 in the NSIC while WSC drops to 14-10 and 11-8 in league play.
            The first quarter was close with the teams playing to a 14-14 tie. 
            But WSC made just one basket in the second quarter, an Andrea Larson layup at the 3:04 mark, as Sioux Falls outscored the Wildcats 22-6, to take a 36-20 lead at intermission.
            The host Cougars put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 31-11, to grab a commanding 67-31 lead and Sioux Falls cruised to the 84-46 victory over Wayne State.
            Senior guard Sadie Murren was the lone Wayne State player in double figures scoring 14 points.  WSC made just 12 of 51 shots in the contest for 23.5 percent.  The 'Cats were 4 of 19 behind the 3-point line and 18 for 26 at the foul line.
            Sam Knecht led Sioux Falls with 20 points followed by Taylor Varsho with 18.  Alison Klostergaard added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
            Sioux Falls made 32 of 68 shots from the field for 47 percent, going 10 of 30 behind the arc.  USF was 10 for 12 at the charity stripe.
            The Cougars dominated the rebounding battle 50-30 over Wayne State and held a sizeable 44-10 advantage on points in the paint on the Wildcats.  Alisa Peterson grabbed five boards for the Wildcats.
            WSC had 17 turnovers in the game to 15 for Sioux Falls.
            The Wildcats will be in Marshall, Minnesota Saturday for a 5 p.m. contest at Southwest Minnesota State.
