#22 Wayne State College avenged an earlier loss to St. Cloud State by sweeping the Huskies in Wayne Friday evening in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played at Rice Auditorium. Scores of the match were 25-17, 25-19, 25-21. Earlier this season (September 23), WSC lost at St. Cloud State by scores of 25-12, 25-16, 25-23. The Wildcats improve to 19-10 and 12-7 in the NSIC while the Huskies slips to 16-13 and 8-11 in league games.
WSC trailed early in the first set 9-6, but the 'Cats took their first lead at 12-11 following a SCSU attack error.
Tied at 14-14, WSC took the lead for good in the set with five straight points that included a
Haley Kauth service ace. The 'Cats went on to win the set 25-17, forcing eight St. Cloud State attack errors.
The Wildcats led from start to finish in the second set for a 25-19 win. WSC forced three straight SCSU errors taking a 9-4 lead early in the set to force a Husky timeout.
After St. Cloud State got within two at 11-9, WSC took control of the set with
Katie Stephens serving five straight points including an ace to put the 'Cats ahead 20-11.
Alyssa Ballenger led WSC in the second set with four kills while
Haley Kauth and Hope Carter each recorded six digs.
The third set was close early until sophomore
Haley Kauth served nine consecutive points to give WSC a 17-8 lead as the Wildcats posted a 25-21 third set win to complete the sweep.
Erin Gross had four kills with no errors on eight attacks to lead WSC while Stephens and Kauth each recorded one service ace.
Wayne State finished the match with a .195 attack percentage, recording 36 kills on 118 attacks with 13 errors while St. Cloud State hit .126 with 37 kills, 21 errors and 127 attacks.
The Wildcats had one more dig than the Huskies, 58-57, and one more block (4-3). WSC had four service aces to just one for SCSU.
Stephens led WSC in kills with nine followed by Ballenger with eight and Gross seven.

Haley Kauth accounted for 17 digs followed by freshman Hope Carter with 11. Junior setter
Megan Gebhardt handed out 31 set assists in the win. Stephens and Kauth each had two service aces.
The Wildcats will be at home again Saturday afternoon hosting #6 Minnesota Duluth in a 4 p.m. contest at Rice Auditorium.
