St. Cloud State shot 62 percent in the second half and finished the game making 55.4 percent from the field (31 of 56) as the Huskies rolled over Wayne State College 82-58 in a Northern Sun Conference men's basketball game played Friday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The visiting Huskies improved to 14-6 and 10-4 in the NSIC North while WSC falls to 11-12 overall and 6-9 in the NSIC South Division.
Wayne State led early in the contest as the 'Cats took a five point lead at 14-9 following a Tony Bonner jumper at the 13:43 mark.
The Wildcats' last lead of the game came at 17-16 on a Trevin Joseph layup with 10:47 to play in the half.
St. Cloud State took the lead for good on the next possession on a Gage Davis layup for a 18-17 Husky lead.
With SCSU holding a 24-21 lead with just over five minutes left in the first half, the Huskies scored the next seven points for a 31-21 lead and finished the first half with a 35-25 advantage.
The Huskies made 12 of their first 15 shots of the second half and never allowed the Wildcats a chance to get back into the game. SCSU opened the half with a 16-6 run, taking a 51-31 lead with 13:57 to play and the Huskies cruised the rest of the second half to post a 82-58 win.
Brian Goodwin and Tony Bonner were the lone Wildcats in double figures with 10 points apiece.
WSC shot 41.4 percent from the field, making 24 of 58 shots. The 'Cats were 4 for 18 from the 3-point line and 6 of 11 at the free throw line.
Gage Davis led St. Cloud State with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Sean Smith also hit double digits with 12.
The Huskies finished the game connecting on 31 of 56 shots for 55.4 percent. SCSU was 6 of 13 behind the arc and 14 for 19 at the free throw line.
St. Cloud State won the rebounding battle over WSC 38-29 thanks to 12 boards from Davis while Bonner grabbed five rebounds to lead the Wildcats.
Vance Janssen was credited with five steals in the contest for the Wildcats.
WSC will host Minnesota Duluth in an NSIC contest Saturday with tip off set for 6 p.m.
