Wildcat volleyball cruises past Bemidji State

            Wayne State used a season-high nine service aces and a .337 attack percentage to post a Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep over Bemidji State Friday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  Scores of the match were 25-11, 25-16 and 25-13.  The Wildcats improve to 14-5 overall and 6-4 in the NSIC with the win while the visiting Beavers drop to 5-13 and 2-8 in league games.
            Bemidji State opened the match with a service ace, but WSC responded with seven of the next eight points to take a 7-2 lead in the opening set.  The 'Cats increased the advantage to 12-5 to force a second Bemidji State timeout and the Wildcats went on to a 25-11 set win thanks to 17 kills and a .500 attack percentage.
            WSC never trailed the rest of the night as the 'Cats built a 17-7 lead in the second set and used five service aces (two by Tarrin Beller) to take a 25-16 set win.  The Wildcats used three kills each from Jaci Brahmer and Katie Stephens and forced seven Beaver attack errors in the set.
            The third set saw WSC score six straight points to break open a tight set (12-8) as the Wildcats went on to top the Beaveres 25-13 to complete the sweep.  Stephens had four kills to lead WSC while sophomore Maddie Duffy accounted for two service aces in the set.
            Wayne State finished the match with a .337 attack percentage on 40 kills, eight errors and 95 attacks while Bemidji State posted a .099 percentage with 25 kills, 16 errors and 91 attacks.
            The Wildcats had one more dig than Bemidji State, 44-43, and held a 6-4 edge in blocks.  WSC had nine service aces and four errors while BSU had two aces and three service errors.
            Stephens led WSC with 11 kills and a .400 attack percentage followed by Brahmer with eight kills.  Tarrin Beller produced four blocks and junior libero Haley Kauth had nine digs.  Duffy had three of Wayne State's nine service aces while Beller and Alyssa Ballenger each accounted for two aces.  Senior setter Megan Gebhardt handed out 33 set assists in the win.
            The Wildcats will be at home again Saturday afternoon hosting Minnesota Crookston at 1 p.m.
