Makenna Adkison fired a complete game four-hit shutout while senior second baseman
Abbie Hix drove in all five runs to lead Wayne State College in a 5-0 win over Washburn Thursday afternoon at the Emporia State Softball Classic in Kansas. The Wildcats improved to 9-6 with the win while the Ichabods dropped to 13-15.
The Wildcats scored twice in the second inning as Hix laced a two-run single up the middle that scored
Kamryn Sparks (walk) and
Ashley Hernandez (double).
WSC took a 3-0 lead in the fourth when Sparks doubled and scored when Hix was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The 'Cats closed out the scoring with two runs in the sixth as Hix singled to left field, bringing home
Raquell Penke (single) and Hernandez (double).
Wayne State held a 6-4 edge over Washburn in hits and posted a shutout despite making six errors in the contest.
Hix and Hernandez led WSC at the plate with Hix going 2 for 2 with five RBI while Hernandez went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Sparks doubled and Penke singled for the other WSC hits.
Adkison (6-3) fired a four-hit shutout in the circle for the win, her third complete game of the season and second shutout. She allowed four walks and struck out two.
WSC will face host Emporia State on Thursday at 2 p.m. in another game at the Emporia State Classic.
